Security Alarm Systems - Do You Want Your Home to Be One That is Safe?

By Billings Farnsworth

When you hear security alarm systems what comes to mind? For those that haven't ever looked into an alarm system you might think of that neighbor's house that used to always have an alarm system go off and there was nothing you could do about it. You might think about the signs that you see out in front of people's homes that say they have a security alarm system in their home. Maybe you are thinking about the conversations you have had with people that talk about coming in their homes and having to run to the keypad to make sure they didn't set the security alarm system off and then the police get called for a false alarm.

If you have any of these things come to mind you are probably with several of us. The exciting part about security alarm systems is that they are continuing to improve right along with all of the other types of technology that are progressing. Let's take one of those examples and think about those signs that you see out in front of people's homes that let you know they have an alarm system.

Do you think about it when you see it? Do you get a sense of safety when you know that is the home you are going inside to see someone in? Isn't that a great thing? Do you think that could be the case for those that are thinking about breaking into someone's home? There are millions of homes that don't have those signs in front of their homes. Why not go find one that doesn't have one of those signs vs. taking your chances on one that has a sign? Think about it, do you want your home to have that right off the bat safe feeling?

Gaylord Industries (http://www.gaylordsecurity.com/) sells home security alarm systems.

Video Security Systems

By Matthew Richard Kerridge

Video security systems aren't what they used to be. Even the term video surveillance might conjure up images of grainy, jerky video stored on expensive VHS tapes stacked to the ceiling. This is definitely no longer the case. The technology that has developed over the past decade or so has revolutionized the capabilities of video security systems, especially with the advent of DVR technology.

When considering video surveillance for your home or business, the first thing to consider is whether it will be better to buy individual components to build your own system, or whether you should invest in a complete package. For many consumers, the video security packages available can really be the best value, especially for businesses. If your needs are small and you are a natural do it yourselfer, then may be the way to go.

Also, one common problem with package systems is that they don't always meet your specific needs perfectly. The necessary lengths of cable, possible wireless options, the number and type of cameras you need should all be considered.

Doing it yourself can also give you greater latitude in what types of cameras you choose. While high powered, high resolution cameras are certainly more available and affordable than ever, the lower tech models may suit your needs just fine. Used cameras and systems can also be a great way to meet your security needs and cut costs.

If you're a homeowner, you may want to consider carefully how much you're willing to spend on a video security system. For instance, is what you're trying to protect really worth spending upwards of $500 on video surveillance? If so, have you at least insured your valuables again possible theft? If all you're looking for is a little more peace of mind about your privacy being invaded, you may want to consider possible alternatives to buying a fully functional, high tech video surveillance system.

For instance, faux video cameras are becoming a more popular option. The perfect companion for a fake camera is a sign that reads "Smile! You're on camera!" Potential criminals may not be too bright, but they are smart enough to realize it's the twenty-first century, and that just because they can't see the camera, doesn't mean it's not there. This can at least deter those concerned about possibly getting caught, which covers a big percentage of undesirable company. However, those who are determined enough to try and work around cameras with disguises (or just blatant carelessness) won't be phased by this. If you think you may need to defend your business or your home against such people, then a full video security system is highly recommended.

Faux cameras can also be an excellent augmentation to a full video security system, catching the subject off-guard. If a thief in a store, for instance, is trying to shoplift undetected, they'll go where they think there are no cameras, avoiding your decoy and heading for a quiet, apparently unobserved corner to do the deed. To their surprise, they're caught anyway, heedless of the hidden camera you left in that corner.

Guns Vs Stun Guns - What New Consumers Should Know

By D. M. Fehrenbacher

If you are researching personal safety devices, chances are you have had a debate with yourself weighing the pros and cons of guns versus stun guns. These two very different pieces of equipment offer different advantages that could mean life or death to your and your family. Read on for a list of advantages and disadvantages that just might make this purchase a little easier for you.

1. Ease of Use. Guns require a lot of practice to master. Some people go their whole lives never making a good shot. Guns require practice to shoot effectively, and the nerves involved in a scary situation might be just enough to ruin even the best aim. Stun guns are much broader in their use. You don't have to worry about aim because you are holding it to the skin of another person, and any skin will work.

2. Dead vs. Stunned. Guns carry a much, much higher kill rate than stun guns. Stun guns are designed to interfere with the body's electrical system. A high voltage charge is delivered that interrupts other signals and leaves the attacker unable to move for up to ten minutes. Realistically, most people recover in just a few minutes, which is still ample time to make your escape. Guns shot well kill people, and with poor aim do nothing but let your attacker know you don't know how to use the gun you are waving around. Without proper training, a gun is simply a green light for an intruder. A stun gun is much easier to use, and therefore more likely to be effective at stopping an intruder.

3. Accidental Firing. Stun guns and real guns both offer various safety features, but evidence of the insufficiency of these measures can be seen in the news every day. Accidental shootings take down children and adults alike. Simply dropping a gun can emit a potentially lethal discharge, where a stun gun is much more difficult to accidentally use. Even in the case of accidentally using a stun gun, the results are rarely ever fatal and never permanent.

4. Tools For Attackers. The worst case scenario for anyone trying to defend themselves from an intruder is being overpowered by the intruder. Intruders who come face to face with a gun will often assume you don't know how to use it. They will sense any fear or hesitation you have and will grab that gun from you. Then, your burglar just became armed. A stun gun is easier to conceal, and even if the worst case occurs, won't kill you. A robber who intends to use your protection against you can't shoot you dead with a stun gun.

5. More availability. Families with small children should keep all guns locked away. Children are notoriously curious about guns and have learned from violent cartoons that they are funny and cool. Children are less likely to understand what a stun gun is and be attracted to it. Stun guns are much safer to keep in bedside drawers than real guns.

The point of purchasing a self-protection item is to keep you safer. Why purchase an item that just increases the chances you or a loved one might get hurt. Stun guns offer protection without the very real risks of guns.

New Trends in Security Technology

By D. M. Fehrenbacher

Security technology changes all of the time to keep up with the fast paced changes in technology as a whole. To stay safe and keep your family protected, you should keep abreast of changes in this ever-evolving industry. These trends in the industry represent the latest advances in protection and all of the ways you can keep yourself and your things safe.

1. Size Matters. Size matters in security technology, but the proportions are likely different than those you might think. The smaller the better. Entire alarm systems can be housed in small containers and out of site of potential intruders. Stun guns and pepper sprays can be found as small as pens and pagers. The small packaging makes these items easier to conceal and affords you an element of surprise than can be crucial in the event of a break-in.

2. Disguises Add Surprise. Disguises add an element of surprise that is essential in keeping yourself safe. Stun guns disguised as cell phones can take a potential attacker by surprise and they might never think to try and get the stun gun out of your hands. Pepper spray in a pager takes an attacker completely by surprise and can give you the extra time you need to make a safe exit and get help. Even security cameras are better disguised now, hiding in clocks and pencil holders, and catching the face of your robber on camera for easier identification and prosecution.

3. Networking. Networking your alarm system allows you access to help at only a moment's notice. You alarm can simply connect in seconds to the master system of the alarm company and trigger calls for ambulance, fire, or police help much faster than you could using a telephone. Each alarm point is connected to the greater system, and even the driveway and exterior cameras can be networked in creating the most thorough picture of your personal safety possible.

These trends represent the direction the industry is going. Safety devices that are bulky and draw attention are gone. They don't do anyone any favors. Stand alone alarm devices are for yesterday's houses. Today, things are digital, they are connected, and they are small enough to afford you the upper hand of surprise.
